Jívová lies in the Nízký Jeseník range. It is about 7 km east of Šternberk. The municipal office is in a building in the centre of the village.

The Baroque church of St Bartholomew, dating from 1717 to 1720, is decorated with frescoes by the Olomouc painter Jan Kryštof Handke.
